Frequently asked questions

Will it help to get me pregnant?    Does it help infertility?

Possibly -- a certain number of women have a uterus out of proper position either tilted or dropped down. If this is the case, it is very likely that the uterine health is too poor to support a growing fetus or to even allow for conception. Thus, we have seen that about 30% of infertile women have a dropped or tilted uterus and have been able to get pregnant once it was in proper alignment and the blood supply, venous drainage, nerve enervation and lymphatic system were all functioning in harmony .

Does it work?

Most definitely! These external, noninvasive massage techniques have been known and used by the Maya and many other Central and South American people for thousands of years. There is evidence of this knowledge in many other global cultures. If it didn't work it wouldn't still be with us today, five thousand or so years later.

How does it help my painful periods?

An unhealthy uterus jammed in between the bowel or bladder, often times folded on itself abnormally, has a really hard time cleaning itself out each month with menses. It has to over compensate for its poor blood supply by severe cramping to clean itself. Often, it is unable to flush out the menstrual fluids because of clotting and thickening of the blood. Thus, incompletely flushed uterine fluids can accumulate and harden or endurate on the uterine membrane, leading to more cramping and pain that increases with each succeeding cycle.

What if I have had a hysterectomy?

Women who have had hysterectomies benefit greatly from these massage techniques because they help break up scar tissue. Scar tissue can prevent the free flow of arterial blood into the pelvis and can restrict proper venous drainage away from the pelvis. It is well known that lymphatic fluids accumulate below the scar line, causing swelling and pain in the extremities. Post-hysterectomy women report that they can actually feel the improvement of circulation in their legs, pelvis, low back, and abdomen. In some cases it has alleviated headaches as well.

What if I'm pregnant?

The uterine massage should only be done by a qualified trained professional in The Arvigo Techniques ™ of Maya Abdominal Massage. The massage has been able to alleviate much of the discomfort of abnormal pressure from the dropped or tilted uterus. This abnormal pressure can lead to low back ache, leg swelling, constipation, headaches and difficult labor and delivery. Dr. Rosita Arvigo has specialized in the treatment of women for the past 25 years. She has a large number of patients who have up to 15 children each. Her patients report that receiving regular massage treatments during pregnancy leads to a much easier and safer labor and delivery as well as a more comfortable pregnancy.

Can I do the massage techniques while I am menstruating?

No. The massage techniques should not be done on women during their menses.

Who is qualified to do The Arvigo Techniques™ of Maya Abdominal Massage?

Only those students who have successfully completed the first three levels of training, which includes Self-Care, Professional Care with case studies, and finally, Certification Class.
